We've been eating a lot of soup lately as fall has been here for a while already, this sounds great. Wish we could get some fresh greens up here. But we are joining a local organization similar to yours. Silly us to do so right after the growing season has ended. Still, better than nothing.

Cheers!

The abundance of off-season non-fresh foods is so much more noticeable up here. It's amazing to see these chemically ripened tomatoes in the dead of winter and then the difference between the fresh Finnish ones come summer (though many are still from greenhouses). I have a friend who's considering doing getting his phd in Food Geography and he said he was amazed at how small the field was. But hopefully the true impact of the global food industry can come to light in the near future and we can find some alternatives that are efficient, productive, healthy, and tasty!

Hey Stephen! I was just looking over your blog. I love reading all of your articles! I just wanted to say that Dan and I were actually just discussing the last part of this blog. We had gone to Ohio to visit my mother in the hospital and had to grab some food quick when we were there. All that they had were fast food joints, and I think that there may have been a Bob Evans. Not even a diner! I was saying to Dan where is the greek food? Italian? Spanish? Hell...I would have even settled for a Chichi's! lol but there was nothing. We broke down and went to subway (not good) but it was our only real choice. So after all of that we started to discuss how lucky we are to live in a place that is so diverse with food. How many towns that are not big cities have as many choices as us. Now we just need to get an indian place in vineland and I will be so happy! Hope all is well with you guys. We will have to grab some dinner soon and catch up! Say Hi to Jill!!
